With all the late nights recently we have been starting our days later – we should work on that.

We caught the tram into the city after breakfast and went first to look through the cathedral. Its very impressive, but I can’t say I found it very inviting.

The Cologne Cathedral is the seat of the Archbishop of Cologne and is a renowned monument of German Catholocism.

Fun Fact: The Cologne Cathedral is the most visited landmark in Germany, averaging 20,000 people per day! Construction of the cathedral was started in the 1200’s, was halted in the 1400’s, and wasn’t actually continued, and completed, until the 1800’s. It survived 14 hits by aerial bombs during World War II, but despite the damage it remained standing while the rest of the city was flattened.

We are loving the rich history in the places we are travelling to. It’s so fascinating to us, having come from a country with a very new history.

To me it also presents a sort of responsibility, pondering the common history of other countries and considering how ours might look in the future, or how we want it to look in future.

We carried on through the streets of Cologne and found ourselves some Currywurst (which I actually quite enjoyed), made lego versions of ourselves, visited the old market and old town, and then crossed the bridge (covered in ‘love locks’) to go up the Cologne Triangle.

The 360° view from the top of the glass tower was stunning.

It’s an office tower which was built in 2005, is over 100m high and has a viewing platform on the top.

The glass barrier names some of the buildings and places you can see from different points – a great way to get ideas of things to do. Once we reached ground level, we found a spot by the river to enjoy some cold beverages in the sunshine.

Dinner tonight consisted of burgers which rival Burger Fiasko burgers – if you know, you know.

Very delicious.
