Got up reasonably early (after sunrise though), smashed breakfast and had to speed walk to the train station.
Managed to catch the train to the airport with seconds to spare (DJ running across the road to get on after buying our tickets), but had plenty of time at the airport before our flight to relax a bit more – thankfully.
1hr 40 flight to Berlin – 12:05 arrival.
Caught the bus from the plane to the terminal where we collected our bags and Lilli picked us up.
29 degrees and very humid when we arrived (hit 33 later in the day) which Jade really appreciated.
Had some lunch – bread and cold meat + egg (jade cooked) and peanut butter and jam – at Lilli’s house and a bit of a rest before navigating public transport to do a boat tour down the river.
Boat tour was cool, got to see lots of different landmarks and hear a bit of Berlins history – the breeze on the boat was also welcomed considering the heat (as was the mode of travel and not having to walk).
Found our way home to rinse before dinner – we were all very sweaty!!
Had dinner with Lilli, her dad, brother (Max) and brothers girlfriend (Hannah) at an Italian restaurant nearby – which we walked to via the wine gardens.
Heard about Max and Hannah’s NZ trip – they visited Opotiki! – – and tried some warm grappa which was, not so nice.
Dinner was delicious and company was so enjoyable – cool to put names and faces together and feel like our family just extended a little further.
Would love to stay longer here if we had time.
