Travelling to Europe was always going to be a long trip… I think we just underestimated how long it would be between decent rests.

We left Auckland around 1:00pm 20.08.19 for our first 12 hour flight, landing in Bangkok around 8:30pm local time (1:30am NZT!).

Darren managed to get a little shut eye, but not this girl!

We had a 4 hour layover in Bangkok and had an interesting time negotiating the huge airport and hoards of people to find food, toilets and a space to sit (and somebody hid the security checkpoint behind a pillar).

We left Bangkok for our second 12 hour flight at 12:15am local time (5:15am NZT), with the intention of having dinner and then trying to sleep the rest of the flight.

Intentions and reality didn’t really stack up.

It’s challenging to sleep on aeroplanes at the best of times, but then when you add 2 young restless children (not us ;-)) and the galley to the mix, the struggle is real.

Once again Darren managed to sleep at least a few hours… I, on the other hand, slept on and off for 3ish hours and then that was it until we landed in Oslo at 7:00am (5:00pm NZT) 21.08.19.

Since we arrived in Oslo so early in the morning, we knew we had to stay awake for the next 8-12 hours to avoid the jetlag wrestle, and so our first day in Norway began with the goal to keep busy so sleep couldn’t take hold.

Pro-tip: almost 50 hours straight without sleep does nothing good for a girls complexion.
