This morning we had a late start after a late night, but we were feeling excited because our day in the city was being kicked off with a chocolate museum tour.

You know your chocolate museum tour is going to be a good one when it starts with a huge chocolate fountain and waffle biscuits!
Pro-tip: If you ever visit Hamburg, go to the chocoversum chocolate museum.
We tasted all the chocolate and got to make our own flavours… Delicious!
The tour goes through the history of chocolate and how it was traditionally made, and involves taste testing each step.

We had tickets booked for our next activity, later in the day, so we slowly made our way across the city and came across the St Nikolai Memorial.

Fun Fact: The church was formerly one of 5 main Lutheran churches in Hamburg and was originally built in the 12th century. After undergoing many changes, expansions and partial destructions over the centuries, the church was mostly destroyed in the bombing of Hamburg during World War II and wasn’t fully restored, leaving behind the crypt, church site and it’s tall spire, which now serves as a memorial and landmark in the city.

We went up the 76m of spire accesible to the public, which provided beautiful views of the city, as well as a little insight into some of Hamburg’s history.

From the memorial we continued through the city to our next stop – Miniatur wunderland! This was a place which came highly recommended and now we will highly recommend it to othersIt. Was. Epic! I never thought I’d enjoy looking at model trains and buildings etc but ended up happily spending over 4 hours doing just that. The planes took off and landed, the ships cruised down the river and docked at the wharf… it was just so cool seeing the results of thousands of hours of work put into the tiniest details.Every time we looked at a piece, we would see something new.

Fun fact: So far miniature wonderland has spent 35,000,000€ in construction costs, and it has taken 923,000 working hours to build! Completion phase expected 2020.

We probably could’ve spent more time at miniature wonderland but it was already nearly 8pm by the time we left and we were all feeling rather hungry.
It was tricky to find somewhere that had space and catered for Isaac, being vegetarian (Germany isn’t so good at labelling their dishes), so we ended up having dinner at an Italian restaurant – 100% would not recommend this particular one though (I went to bed hungry).

Off to Munster tomorrow, can’t wait!
